Augmented Reality: YInvisible

via Beyond The Beyond by Bruce Sterling on 2/11/11

*Okay, this quite cool electrochromic glassworks technology is not the biggest deal in the world. It’s not even “Augmented Reality,” because it’s not three-dimensional.

*But I see it as significant, because “YInvisible” is a new spinoff from Ydreams, which is most definitely an Augmented Reality company. YDreams is an AR company whose basic research has created this brand-new little non-AR industry. That’s impressive. It shows that an AR tech-research approach can yield interesting lateral applications that no one might have seen otherwise.

*Baby industries don’t have children of their own — ergo, AR is no longer a baby industry.

“Constituted in 2010, Ynvisible is a leading developer of electro-chromic displays that are printed on any surface or object, including paper, plastic, glass, ceramics, wood-based materials and cork. The company targets the mass production of low cost interactive electrochromic displays that are printed, flexible, transparent, low power and sunlight-readable.”
