R.I.P. Benoît Mandelbrot


Viewer Charles Fischer eulogizes and shares some images:

A sad Moment of Geek, Benoit Mandelbrot has died. Not really covered in the mainstream media. He is best known for art based on his work. His work on fractals had many more practical uses. I used fractal dimension to inspect fresh apples for damage. Others have used his work in such diverse areas as determining heart attack risk to better image compression.
